Head Coach Jimmy Hanson

Jimmy Hanson was named head coach of Gopher Mens Rugby in 2016. 

After graduating from the University of Minnesota in 2008, Jimmy continued to play for a number of years but began to focus heavily on coaching in 2009.

Jimmy was an assistant coach for the U19 select side prior to becoming the head coach of Armstrong in 2010 where Jimmy started his coaching career in style, winning six consecutive Minnesota state championships. In addition to coaching high school athletes, Jimmy has coached local women's clubs including the Minneapolis Menagerie and the Minnesota Valkyries. 

Outside of Minnesota, Jimmy has been selected to assist with coaching at multiple regional and national all-star events, including the Midwest Thunderbirds and the 2013 Girls High School Stars and Stripes program.

Jimmy is also the co-founder of the Minnesota Tundra, a high-performance rugby program dedicated to providing high school athletes year round opportunities to train and play high level rugby. 

Assistant Coach Mikayla Miller

Mikayla Miller was added to the Gopher Men's Rugby coaching staff in 2016.

As a Gopher Women's Rugby alumna, Mikayla graduated from the University of Minnesota in 2013. She continued her playing career with the Twin Cities Amazons where she is still an active club member and club officer.

In addition to her role with the Gopher Men's program, Mikayla is an active member of the Minnesota high school rugby community. She currently serves as the head coach for the North Suburban Girls Rugby Club, where she began her coaching career in 2011. Mikayla is also a co-founder and current administrator with Minnesota Tundra, a high-performance high school rugby program.

Assistant Coach Sean Lindersmith


Sean currently serves as the Director of High School and Youth Rugby for Minnesota Youth Rugby. Sean's experience is deep: in addition to many years playing, he has also served as Manager for the USA Eagles as well as for PRO Rugby's San Diego Breakers. He was also a member of the United States Coast Guard, whose 7's program he helps coach. 

Physical Therapist Heather Schroeder

Heather has been a beloved figure within Gopher Rugby for more than a decade. A graduate of the University of Alberta's physical therapy program, Heather has clinical experience via Twin Cities Orthopedics.
