Gophers Rugby Finishes Strong, Claims 9th at CRAA 7's Nationals

The University of Minnesota Men's Rugby team wrapped up their season at the CRAA 7's National Championship in Lawrence, Kansas, securing a respectable 9th place finish. After a challenging start, the Gophers showcased their resilience and determination, battling back to finish strong in the national tournament.

The Gophers faced tough competition on day one, dropping their opening matches. In Round 1, Minnesota fell to a strong Iowa side with a score of 7-31. They then faced Western Washington in Round 2, ultimately losing 0-17.Undeterred, the Gophers rallied, demonstrating the grit and fighting spirit they've become known for. Their comeback began with a hard-fought 29-19 victory over Texas in Round 3.

They continued their winning ways on Sunday in Round 4, defeating Texas State 12-5 in a tight contest. The Gophers capped off their impressive run with another victory over Texas in Round 5, winning 17-12. This strong finish propelled them to 9th place overall in the national championship.

"We knew we had a tough pool to start, but the lads really showed what they're made of by bouncing back the way they did," commented Head Coach Paul O’Brien. "To finish 9th at Nationals is a testament to their hard work and dedication throughout the spring season."

A standout performer for the Gophers throughout the tournament was Anders Vevang, who was named Player of the Tournament for his exceptional tenacity and versatility on the field. Vevang's tireless effort and ability to impact the game as a forward and back, and proved invaluable to the team's success.

The University of Minnesota Men's Rugby team can hold their heads high after a season that culminated in a strong showing at the CRAA 7's National Championship, proving their mettle against the nation's best collegiate rugby programs.
